Presented in association with Aotearoa Art Fair, guests are invited to bring a book that is special to them, to Te Tuhi’s presentation of the exhibition Pulp III: A Short Biography of the Banished Book, by Shubigi Rao.

Your book will be gifted to Samoa House Library and in return, the first ten people to gift a special book will receive a copy of Shubugi Rao’s book, Pulp III: An Intimate Inventory of the Banished Book, which features in the exhibition.

Shubigi Rao's book is an artwork that chronicles the vast array of issues surrounding books, libraries and communities. Originally presented at the 2022 Venice Biennale, copies of the book are arranged in the exhibition in a way that speaks of the monumentality of the book as a container of knowledge and progenitor of change.

Similar to the presentation in Venice, the book is a form of sharing and generosity that is integral to Rao's method and her long-term project that spans the globe - a project that engages with the complexities of access and dissemination of books, as well as the act of sharing knowledge across cultures.
