The Fisher Gallery is installing a major work by the New Plymouth based artist Don Driver with Energy City.
Driver’s work has had a great impact and continuing influence on the artistic community. The artist will construct an environment specifically within the Fisher Gallery from found materials that will be unified by light and sound.
Don Driver relates his own work to his own environment, New Plymouth, which is promoted as the energy centre of New Zealand. With the various electricity, gas and petroleum projects that have been developed in the region Driver considers how they affect us.
Driver focuses on the elemental use of electricity in his work as the generating force that incorporates eight large wall hangings and a number of free standing sculptures including found materials such as tyres, scythes, old signs and illuminated fluorescent tubes.
This exhibition will provide a unique opportunity for Auckland audiences to experience large scale, fully enclosed sculptural installation by Don Driver.
