Te Tuhi’s café is Aotearoa’s first training café for people with intellectual disabilities, run in partnership with Rescare Homes Trust and the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland.

The café provides in-house training and paid employment for people with intellectual disabilities through a community-based programme.

In 2024, the training remit of the café is expanding to engage with Manukau Institute of Technology’s accredited Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality programme, part of a pilot at MIT to give greater access to students with disabilities.

The café serves barista-made coffee and a range of homemade cabinet food and made-to-order menu items. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available. Te Tuhi is fully accessible, with step-free entrances, accessible parking and toilets.

The café project is a non-profit social enterprise. To find out more about the project, click here.
