The glitter painting The Wharenui that Dad Built by Reuben Paterson was exhibited as part of the Biennale d’Art Contemporain: a selection of contemporary Māori art exhibited in Nouméa at the end of 2000.
“The decorative art of kōwhaiwhai (painted scrolls) is an immense and rich playground for experimentation. The Wharenui that Dad Built is a renaissance of traditional designs that intersect, spiral, and extend in glitter curls and line drawings.
The painting is as ritualistic and cleansing as it is a loving chat and celebration of life.”
