An exhibition which celebrates 40 years of the Volunteer Services Abroad’s (VSA) work in Africa, Asia and the Pacific is now on at te tuhi -the mark in Pakuranga.

New Zealand Photographers Abroad features the work of eight of this country's foremost photographers who travelled overseas to mark the VSA’s 40th year on two-week-long volunteer photographic assignments. Their aim was to record the contributions of VSA volunteers across three regions and to capture images of the countries in which they work.

New Zealand Photographers Abroad, on in te tuhi - the mark’s centre gallery until the 1st of December, is a collection of 60 of the thousands of images taken during the photographers’ journeys to Bhutan, Bourganville, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tanzania, Tonga, Tokelau, Vanuatu, Vietnam and Zimababwe.

te tuhi - the mark curator, Rhoda Fowler, says that the exhibition is ‘a rich and beautifully documented glimpse into the lives and cultures of the people from Africa, the Pacific and Asia. te tuhi -the mark is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the VSA to bring these extraordinary photographs to Manukau City.’

The VSA is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-religious and non-political organisation that is funded by contributions from donor members and the public. The VSA recruits New Zealanders to work overseas on assignments in the areas of education and training, economic and agricultural development, health services and community development.

All exhibitions are currently offsite due to disruptions caused by the Pakuranga Eastern Busway construction. The building remains open for classes and other activities. 21 William Roberts Road, Pakuranga, is the best address to enter into navigation apps to guide you to the free parking at our door.
