Māfana: Live Drum Performance

Please join Sione Faletau for a live drum performance responding to the frequencies of Māfana, the sonic foundation of the accompanying sculptural installation. Drawing on the three frequency states explored throughout the work, the performance translates vibration, rhythm, and resonance into an immersive live experience.

This performance marks a full-circle moment in Faletau's artistic journey. Te Tuhi was the first institution to present his public performance work, and returning to this site through the practice of drumming feels particularly significant. Revisiting performance as a central part of his practice offers an opportunity to re-energise an important aspect of his artistic language and realise it anew within the context of Māfana.

Extending the exhibition's exploration of warmth, connection, and embodied feeling, the performance invites audiences to slow down, listen deeply, and experience sound as both a physical and emotional presence.

Come relax and enjoy this sonic exploration of Māfana, where rhythm, frequency, and feeling come together in a shared moment of connection.
