Gallery update

A recent one-off incident linked to nearby construction has caused flooding in part of our building. While our gallery spaces and parts of the wider building were affected, all artworks remain safe, thanks to the swift response from our team.

After careful assessment and planning, we can now confirm that Te Tuhi’s gallery spaces will remain closed until early 2026. While the circumstances weren’t of our making, we’re choosing to use this time wisely – not just to carry out essential repairs, but to refresh and future-proof our spaces so that Te Tuhi can return better than ever.

Looking ahead

We’ll be back in 2026 – our 51st year of exhibitions! – with a brilliant programme, a special publication launch, and a belated 50th birthday to throw for our community (that’s you!).

Trust us when we say: it’ll be worth the wait.

Even with our doors temporarily closed, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes. We’ll be sharing some exciting updates soon that signal a bold new chapter for Te Tuhi.

Impact on artists and programming

This disruption has directly affected a number of artists whose exhibitions were either cut short or postponed. Supporting our artist community through this period is our highest priority, and we’re working closely with those impacted to ensure their incredible work will be seen and celebrated in 2026.

If you missed our most recent exhibitions, they’ve been beautifully documented online.

What’s still open

While the gallery itself is temporarily closed, parts of Te Tuhi remain active:

→ Public classes are continuing in alternate venues
→ A limited number of event and venue hire spaces are still operating
→ Te Tuhi Café is open Monday to Saturday, serving your favourites as usual.

Any booking queries, please contact venuehire@tetuhi.art.

How to support us

Many of you have asked how you can help. Don’t be a stranger! There are still plenty of ways you can engage and support us:

The crowdfunding campaign for Te Ana o Hine: a new wāhine-led carving space is live now, running until the end of July. This is an independent project that occupies one of Te Tuhi’s studio spaces in Pakuranga. It supports a collective of wāhine carvers from across the motu and was created to provide a safe and supportive environment for women navigating barriers within the carving world. The campaign is 60% of the way to target – we warmly encourage you to give what you can to see this project get over the line!

Our café is still operating, but now under the management of Fei’s Blossom. Fei’s will continue to operate our café work programme for adults with learning disabilities, and have also filled the café with their beautiful floristry – lifting our spirits enormously!
