An exhibition by Auckland artist Charlotte Fisher is to open at the Fisher Gallery, Pakuranga, Manukau City from Friday 17 September.

The exhibition in the Sculpture Court will exhibit three large scale sculptural works by Charlotte Fisher who is presently the Rita Angus Artist-in-Residence in Wellington. Fisher is becoming recognised as one of the most significant young contemporary sculptors currently working in New Zealand.

The works in the exhibition represent a diversity of her approach and media. The stone work The Arc was carved in 1991 and shows a mastery and presence in the handling of a large scale work.

To counterbalance The Arc is a whimsical kinetic work made for the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt for their recent exhibition based on the notion of the ‘weather vane’. Thar She Blows, a very tall, slender steel work, has rotating flaps and crescent shaped pieces and its movement is governed by the prevailing winds.

The third piece, She Shrine, based around the use of found objects and drawing from a wide range of associations and understandings, will provide the pivot of the exhibition.

Charlotte Fisher has worked full-time as an artist since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 1989.
