J.A. Kennedy’s installation, redportleftobligation / greenstarboardrightvolition or no / yes, yes / no embodies forms of relational navigation through material assembly. The artist asks a foundational question: "Can an origin be clearly articulated?"
As the installation attempts to find clarity through indirect means, viewers – who perform ‘actions’ by 'playing' the work – are prompted with further questions: Where have we come from, where are we, and where are we going?" “Do waypoints enable movement through relation to be mapped? What is the name of the tool that may enable the manipulation of uncertainty along various trajectories? While traversing a spatiotemporal paradox, what is there to be done now?
Through these indefinite negotiations, Kennedy’s project embraces the open question of adaptability, inviting us to engage in poetic acts of structured improvisation.
