Well-known Auckland potter Peter Collis will be exhibiting his latest ceramics at the Fisher Gallery in Pakuranga from 17 March to 9 April. Peter’s work is distinctive for its delicate brushwork and colouring. It varies from small boxes and plates through to large vases and bowls. This exhibition shows his current concern with the continuous classical line of vases and bowls being broken by hard edged wide rims of contrasting colour. His skilful brush decoration is used to give these pieces a harmonious soft look.
Peter starting potting at school and after working some time with Neil Grant, has continued potting on and off for the last ten years. He has taught many workshops and weekend schools and has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand, both in solo and group shows. He has also participated in the New Zealand Potters and Auckland Society of Potters Annual Exhibitions and the Fletcher Brownbuilt Awards. From 1980 to 84 he was Director of the Talisman Workshop and in 1984 was Artist in Residence at the Wanganui Community College.
