Born in Tonga and raised in Manukau, Terry has been photographing the varied communities of Manukau for almost ten years. His documentary-style photography has led to work with top advertising agencies and magazines. He also teaches photography at Dilworth College.
This particular body of work evolved from a Toi o Manukau exhibition he featured in with other Maori and Pacific Manukau-based artists. Faces form the focus of this work, reflecting the cultural diversity of Manukau and highlighting its uniqueness as a community. Terry’s work provides a valuable record of Manukau as it is today, and Manukau Tomorrow, the future, as it unfolds from day to day.
The involvement of some of the Manukau Secondary Schools gives this body of work another perspective - that of our young people - their interpretations of Manukau, their communities and their environments.
