Call for applications: Puku Audience Grants
What is audience? What do you want to see?
Puku will be providing grants to 3 individuals to see shows of any kind. Each recipient will be given $350 to be spent exclusively on admission to at least 3 shows (including films, festivals, performances, talks, sports games etc). In September-ish, recipients will come together for a public discussion around audienceship and spectacle.
The idea rises from multiple directions. While working as a gallery assistant at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki in 2021, I often stood with the work LA CLASSE OPERAIA VA IN PARADISO and other possible meanings (2005) by Marco Fusinato, which had the writing “The Opera Class Goes To Paradise.” The work provoked questions around class and audienceship.
In conversations since, friends have discussed thoughts of audienceship in our arts landscape. What is audience? What risks might we take as an audience if we could afford it? How might broadening our looking impact how we think of our own work, and the work of others?
The application process is just 3 questions, but if you have any struggles please reach out for support. To apply, please email your answers to the following, to liam@tetuhi.art
· Who are you & what are you interested in?
· What shows do you want to see and why? (Choose at least 3 shows. If successful you can choose others as they come up. We suggest selecting ‘conflicting’ mediums.)
· What are some thoughts you have about audienceship, spectacle, looking etc. ?
Applications close April 19th at 11.59pm
