Suzy is a curator and writer based in Seoul, South Korea. With over a decade of experience across Korea and beyond, her practice spans contemporary visual art, time-based media, and interdisciplinary work. She has held curatorial roles at the 2024 Busan Biennale, BOAN1942, WESS, and served as editor of the respected art journal B-Art.

We first connected with Suzy during the 2024 Busan Biennale, where Te Tuhi presented work by three Aotearoa New Zealand artists. That experience revealed an alignment in values: a commitment to collaboration, curiosity, and integrity.

Suzy’s appointment comes at a moment of transformation for Te Tuhi. While our gallery spaces are temporarily closed for essential repairs and upgrades, we’re using this time to reflect, plan, and lay the foundations for our next chapter. Suzy’s role will be central to this vision, helping shape a refreshed programme with the support of our experienced team.

On being offered the Curator position, Suzy said: “I’ve been questioning how the fundamental nature of art has been understood differently across time. Yet some questions remain unresolved without stepping beyond familiar ground. Joining Te Tuhi, an institution with a remarkable 50-year legacy of continuously supporting artistic experimentation and expanding internationalism grounded in locality, offers a rare opportunity to rethink the nature of art across different geographies. Aotearoa New Zealand’s unique cultural and historical context, shaped over centuries, sustains a deeply resonant art scene today. What excites me most is the chance to engage with artists here through both fresh eyes and long-held questions. I’m truly grateful to the Te Tuhi team for inviting me to be part of this journey.”

Suzy brings a wealth of knowledge, international networks, and resources developed through her work in contemporary art. She will be joining Te Tuhi’s highly experienced team:
→ Andrew Kennedy, Exhibition Programme Manager, whose 13-year history with Te Tuhi has shaped some of our most ambitious exhibitions;
→ Dr Vera Mey, International Programme Manager At Large, an art historian and curator with a global research and curatorial practice;
→ Liam Jacobson, Curatorial Intern, and a sharp new voice in Aotearoa New Zealand’s art world.

On Suzy’s appointment, Te Tuhi’s Executive Director Hiraani Himona said: “The Te Tuhi team and our artists loved the experience of working with Suzy in Korea and we are very pleased that she was so enthusiastic about joining us in Aotearoa. Her curatorial approach aligns beautifully with Te Tuhi's core values, and her perspective will be a tremendous asset to the development of Te Tuhi’s programme into the next 50 years.”

We’re thrilled to welcome Suzy to Tāmaki Makaurau – and can’t wait for you to meet her.
