Auckland artist Yolunda Hickman explores the slippage between abstraction and meaning through image production. Her most recent body of work has been concerned with altering examples of information design by separating the communicative function from the visualisations. For the Te Tuhi Project Wall, Yolunda manipulates the ‘A’ paper size chart by creating a wall-to-wall carpeted zone of colour and shape. By doing so, Yolunda disassociates the chart from its original didactic purpose and tests out the possibility for colour, composition and form to ascribe new associations via spatial experience.
