The hidden archive trails behind a gallery’s exhibitions, quietly collecting the photographs, documents, and ephemera that are created in the process. 50 Years On uncovers five decades of archival material starting from the Pakuranga Arts Centre (1975) and the Fisher Gallery (1984), through to Te Tuhi today.
Te Tuhi’s history began in 1969 when a small group of forward-thinking creative women formed the Pakuranga Arts Society, initiated by Iris Fisher and Nanette Cameron. The following years would see over 700 exhibitions featuring local, national and internationally significant artists.
50 Years On celebrates their legacy in the traces left behind, through the stories that have kindled artist and community connections since that first spark was ignited.
