This exhibition traces the development of prints within the history of Western art, celebrating some of the ‘masterpieces’ of the National Art Gallery’s collection. Key artists and images have been chosen to convey not only printmaking techniques and processes, but to give insights into the complex strands (intellectual, stylistic, pragmatic) which go into the making of a single composition.
Over seventy exhibits are featured from the 15th century up to the present; by Mantegna, Durer, Rembrandt, Meryon, Picasso, Johns, Dine, Rothenberg and a number of artists from Australasia.
