In the Sculpture Court Terry Stringer has been invited to prepare an installation. In conjunction with this will be a series of working drawings developing the ideas towards the space.
Stringer is one of New Zealand’s foremost contemporary sculptors. He graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1967 and has worked steadily since then. He has produced a large number of commissions for public spaces in Rotorua, Auckland and Wellington.
Stringer’s works are more often on a scale to fit the domestic or private space. In his art, Stringer continually explores the duality of the two dimensional form into arrangement of planes towards the three dimensional space. An early statement by the artist suggested that his aim was ‘to evoke three dimensions masquerading as two.’
