The major exhibition on at this time is a selection of works by the Auckland artist Don Binney. This exhibition traces the imagery of the artist from 1959-1989.

Binney is an artist with a substantial reputation, but one who rarely exhibits his work. This show brings together a selection of work from a thirty year period. As a survey it brings together works from public galleries, the artist and private collections. Included are a number of early paintings that have never before been publicly exhibited.

Binney’s first major exhibition was at the Ikon Gallery in 1963. Works included landscapes and early bird images that were formative in the paintings that were to be so closely associated with Don Binney, even today.

From this exhibition he was quickly recognised and critically acclaimed as a force within New Zealand art. This exhibition gives us the opportunity to review the artist’s work as he continues to portray the New Zealand environment.
