History Now focuses on contemporaneous reactions in art to a range of religious, political and social concerns. Focusing on current events enables the artist to project a rawness and immediacy not normally afforded by historical views. Many works which explore social concerns were created long after the event, and therefore take on, partly, a revisionist bent.
In this selection of works artists draw on issues, be they moderate or controversial in nature, as they see them occurring and affecting people today. Some are historical in nature, along with new social concerns which could have major implications for the future.
