flow, an exhibition of works by contemporary fabric design by Wellington artist Lisa Munnelly, opens on the 8th of September in the Fisher Gallery studio gallery. The works deal with issues surrounding the ‘information age’ that we live in, and the way it influences and changes our lives. Lisa Munnelly is also interested in the properties of modern fabrics, and the initial inspiration for the work came from new ‘intelligent fibres’ that have antibacterial properties, UV protection and thermostatic control qualities. She says ‘Technology [is] employed to shield and protect us from our environment, synthetic versus natural, control over chaos - yet in its efforts to control nature, technology evolves to emulate it.’
