Portrait of Julia is an exhibition of the paintings of Irish-born, New Zealand-resident artist Nuala Gregory, who is the Head of Painting at Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts. The twenty-two paintings in the exhibition were developed from her discovery of a poem based on a line from Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona, and the rediscovery of a child’s drawing. She says ‘The child’s drawing gave me the idea of something just beginning, a new skill being developed, a fresh attempt to picture the world and the self.’
