Te Tuhi’s latest Drawing Wall project, by Auckland-based artist Timothy Chapman, investigates the history of Crown Lynn Potteries Ltd (1854 - 1989), known for producing utilitarian ceramic tableware and water pipes. To experiment with this social history, Chapman worked closely with local primary school students to create ceramic pipes adorned with Crown Lynn inspired graphic designs. As an installation, the individually decorated units have been joined to create a cyclic pipe system to reference notions of collectivity and societal structure.
