Vanessa Hughes is taking on the project of a photographic survey of Manukau public swimming pools, aesthetically highlighting their value beyond purely practical use.
With this exhibition she is creating a visual record of public swimming pools in Manukau which has both immediate and historical significance, as it investigates the cultural and social value of these generally under appreciated public facilities. Her photographs show the unique character of each community and the beauty and allure of the public swimming pool as intriguing spaces in their own right.
