The purpose of Kanohi ki te Kanohi: Connecting, is literally in its name, it is about helping artists make connections with other artists, creatives, curators, and institutions. This grounded approach brings artists kanohi ki te kanohi, or face-to-face with opportunities, exhibitions, iwi and rohe throughout Aotearoa.

Artist Roadtrip series
Since July 2023, Papatūnga have taken three road trips with groups of artists to Te Matau-ā-Māui, Hawke's Bay, Te Tai Rawhiti, Gisborne, and to Māoriland Film Festival in Ōtaki. Participants were a mix of learners, from emerging to senior arts practitioners who brought their own learning needs and expertise. Many of the artists who attended the road trips had not had an opportunity to visit the rohe outside Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
These trips are designed to establish new relationships or further deepen connections to tangata whenua and iwi, people and place, centring the learning experiences around Māori histories, artforms and artists. Integral to these trips are the connections and relationships formed, and a shared approach to learning and responsibility. It is important that these trips are co-hosted as a reciprocal exchange.
