Gain real-world insights into contemporary art.
Art Today Perpetuals offers a rare opportunity to learn and share perspectives on contemporary art through peer-led discussions, guest lectures and gallery visits. Designed for those with prior knowledge of modern and contemporary art, this course aims to enrich participants’ understanding of current exhibitions, events and collections in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad.
Classes alternate between lectures at Te Tuhi and gallery visits. Past guest speakers include Raukura Turei, Ruth Buchanan, Hannah Ireland, Tina Barton, Louise Stevenson, Fiona Connor, Sarah Hopkinson, Tim Melville, Benjamin Work, Mokopōpaki, Katrina Iosia, Ngahiraka Mason and Vera Mey, bringing you broad-ranging insights into contemporary art in Aotearoa and the Pacific. Onsite sessions begin with What’s On—an overview of current exhibitions and events—and an opportunity for participants to share news and insights.
Alternate fortnightly sessions consist of visits to galleries and private collections. Gallery visits have included Auckland University Collection, Auckland Art Gallery, Artspace Aotearoa, Michael Lett Gallery, Kim Meredith Gallery, Anna Miles Gallery, Sanderson Gallery, Te Toi Uku, Gus Fisher Gallery, Foenander Galleries, Sumer, and Coastal Signs.
Art Today Perpetuals provides a relaxed learning environment with no formal assessments. Participants are encouraged to contribute to the programme with their own expertise and interests. While enrolments are for one year, many continue year after year.
Art Today Perpetuals is programmed by Amberleigh Carson in consultation with Lois Perry.
