Buses for schools
$50.00 – $320.00
Free buses for low-decile schools
Since 1999 Te Tuhi has had a contract with the Ministry of Education to provide schools with learning experiences outside the classroom. This programme introduces young minds to contemporary art through tailored art workshops and guided gallery tours, providing meaningful links to topics taught at school in a fun and creative environment. Te Tuhi’s schools programme provides positive outcomes in learning and self-esteem that enrich students’ lives well beyond the duration of the programme.
Each year, Te Tuhi hosts more than 5,500 school children on gallery visits, the majority of whom are from schools in South and East Auckland. More than 76% of these schools are decile 4 or below. Many of these schools find transport costs difficult to accommodate, and Te Tuhi raises funds from external sources to provide free buses to low-decile schools within 20km of the gallery. Around 3,000 students a year are able to access our programmes as a result.
It costs $320 to provide a bus to bring two classes from one school to Te Tuhi for a day. Te Tuhi aims to raise $16,000 for buses each year through grants and fundraising events, a target that is increasingly difficult to achieve through traditional sources.
Can you help? All contributions, big and small, make a difference and enable us to continue to provide this vital service to low-decile schools.
